Prof. Dr. Lukasz Wisniewski, Deputy Director of inIT, travelled to Sweden at the end of April to participate in the defence of a doctoral thesis as a member of an international examination committee. This participation underlines the good and long-standing cooperation between inIT and Mid Sweden University.

On-site defence with inIT participation in Sundsvall, Sweden

On 30 April 2025, Sujash Naskar successfully defended his dissertation entitled 'Lightweight Cryptographic Solutions for Privacy-Preserved Authentication & Communication in Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks' at Mid Sweden University in Sundsvall.

The examination format follows a Scandinavian tradition: an external opponent - in this case Prof. Dr. Chunming Rong from the University of Stavanger - asks the doctoral candidate specific questions about his work. This is followed by an interview with the committee, which evaluates both the dissertation and the defence.

In addition to Lukasz Wisniewski, the examination committee included Prof. Dr. Andreas Jacobsson (Malmö University) and Prof. Dr. Mats Björkman (Mälardalen University). The thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr. Mikael Gidlund and Prof. Zhang Tingting (Mid Sweden University) and Prof. Dr. Gerhard Hancke Jr (City University of Hong Kong).

Strong performance with career prospects

Sujash Naskar was impressive in his defence, both in terms of content and in his discussion with the international experts. After completing his doctorate, he took up a position at Ericsson - an example of the practical and future-oriented focus of the research.

"The defence was technically sound and challenging. Sujash Naskar mastered it with great clarity and confidence," said Lukasz Wisniewski. "I am pleased that we at inIT were able to support this process. The cooperation with Mid Sweden University is a win-win situation for both sides - scientifically and structurally".

Long-standing research partnership

There are currently two doctoral candidates under joint supervision: While one doctoral candidate is conducting research at inIT in Lemgo, the other is working at the site in Sweden. The scientific supervision is shared between Prof. Dr. Jürgen Jasperneite (inIT) and Prof. Mikael Gidlund (Mid Sweden University). Further joint research projects and collaborations are already being planned.
