The Solutions event entitled "Intelligent assistance systems, sustainability in health, medicine and pharmacy", which was also supported by the ISyCare and KI-Akademie OWL projects, addressed various topics on 4 November 2025 that affect not only professionals but also citizens in their everyday lives. This is because digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have long since found their way into healthcare. The event highlighted the extent to which they also contribute to sustainability.
Strong interest
The high level of interest in this topic shows that it is very much in tune with the spirit of the times: the auditorium of the CENTRUM INDUSTRIAL IT (CIIT) at the Innovation Campus Lemgo (ICL) was well filled with over 60 participants. Prof. Dr. Volker Lohweg from the Institute Industrial IT (inIT) warmly welcomed the guests and briefly outlined the framework of the event: "Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence are no longer abstract buzzwords – not even in healthcare. In this event, experts want to give interested parties a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges that arise from this." In our daily lives, we encounter many health-related issues that often affect us indirectly or that we rarely reflect on. In addition, we are seeing more and more that technical sciences and medicine are merging at the interfaces between disciplines. The Science Council has now issued clear recommendations on this and on interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral cooperation."
Diverse programme
After the welcome address, Uwe Borchers, Managing Director of ZIG – Centre for Innovation in the Health Economy OWL, enthusiastically guided the audience through the interesting and entertaining programme. The wide variety of topics was reflected in the broad range of experts from different disciplines who gave presentations.
- AMICO — Digital assistance for the professional participation of people with disabilities, Mario Heinz-Jakobs, Institute Industrial IT (inIT), TH OWL
- Healthy to the moon and back – health sensors for astronauts, Prof. Dr. Urs-Vito Albrecht, Faculty of Medicine OWL, Digital Medicine, Bielefeld University
- Fewer medication errors through digitalisation — ways to improve drug therapy safety, Dr. Tobias Depke, Ev. Klinikum Bethel, Applied Health Sciences, TH OWL
- New approaches to laboratory medical care — between high-tech and the shop counter, Prof. Dr. Carsten Tiemann, Labor Krone

Knowledge transfer to society
This event focusing on healthcare addressed topics that are relevant not only to the specialist audience in attendance, but to everyone. "This Solutions event has once again demonstrated how knowledge transfer from science and research can be successfully implemented in society," says Dr. Christoph-Alexander Holst with conviction.
At the end of the event, Dr. Holst presented the Raggle-PD software developed by Chief Physician Dr. Andreas Becker, SRH Kurpfalzkrankenhaus, Heidelberg, one of the partners in the context of Parkinson's disease.
